Lynn Williams, aka @lynnbeauty02 on TikTok, is a lifestyle, beauty, and fashion creator with over 600K followers across platforms. She’s also the top-earning creator on FanSubs. In this exclusive creator spotlight, Lynn discusses being a plus-sized creator, embracing your truest self, and building connections with fans through exclusive content platforms.
Tell me a little bit about how you got started creating content and building your platform.
I used to do hair and makeup for 10 years, so I just posted content of that. Then I had a video go viral. I dressed up one day to go to the farmer's market. Completely went viral. Changed my whole life. And then I made the decision to step away from hair and makeup after COVID.
What was that experience like, having that viral video?
It was a surreal moment. Like, I feel like I blinked and everything just happened. It was just viral everywhere. Like, even people who sat down in [my] chair would be like, oh, I saw your video. I'm like, no way. Like, that's incredible. It was crazy.
You talked about doing hair and makeup. That was your profession before you did content creation. What inspired you to start putting it online?
COVID changed it. When I came back [after COVID lockdown], I lost half my clientele. After doing it for 10 years, I thought I had to start over. Just completely start over.
Since that time when you started making content and you had that viral video, how has your content changed as you've embraced creating as your full career?
Now I just kind of make my life my content. I don't even really think too far about it. I just put the camera up and just be my real, authentic self. Give people behind-the-scenes of my everyday. It kind of just happened because I was like, how do I go from hair, and also, I don't want to be just a fashion girl, you know? I love coffee, and I love to motivate people to just be themselves.
I was like, you know what? I'm just gonna post everything. Everything I film, I'm gonna post. I'm not gonna overthink it. If it does good, great. If not, then that's fine. Somebody will see it. Somebody will get from it what they need to. So I love that.
Can we talk a little bit more specifically about FanSubs? I mean, you're the top earner on the platform, which is incredible. What does FanSubs mean for you?
I feel like, as a plus-size content creator, sometimes I have to put myself in a box, just because my TikToks will just get flagged. If I'm dancing around, it gets flagged. So [on FanSubs], I'm not stuck in a box. I can literally just be myself. And people show up and love that. So that's what it means to me. It's just being my full self without being put in a box.
What has it been like growing that fan base on FanSubs, having that freedom to post what you want without the worry of flagging?
I feel like sometimes it's a challenge to push it in a way, just because when people think of paying for content, they want different things. But with me, it's like, no, you're really just getting behind-the-scenes in my life. Stuff that, you know, I would like to post, but I don't think it would make it through [TikTok]. I don't want to sacrifice my other content, my other platforms for this content, but I want people to see [what goes on FanSubs], too.
Is it difficult to balance the expectations of what your audience wants out of paying content versus what you want to produce?
That's what I struggle the most with. I think, is this enough for somebody to pay for? That's what I struggle with. But people keep showing up. It's definitely working. People do want to pay for it. FanSubs is me being truly me and the crazy life that I have. I feel like you get my full self. Not scared to be out of the box there.
Are there any recent posts on FanSubs you're particularly proud of, or you feel like embody that sentiment?
A lot of my beach stuff. I love that I can just post that [on FanSubs] without getting flagged. I've noticed I've had a few [posts] have helped me do try-on hauls and stuff like that. Behind-the-scenes and try-on hauls, I love them too. It seems like people are connecting with my content and asking, hey, can you do this? We would love to see this.
Is that audience feedback something you keep in mind when you're making exclusive content?
Yeah. Yeah, definitely. People ask, do I always want feedback, even if it's negative? Like, I want all the feedback.
How has FanSubs changed or elevated your connection with your audience members?
I feel like with all the other platforms, you get flooded with just all types of people. And some people, they really want to know your life. They're paying for this content. They want to know more about you. And I love that I can do that more. One-on-one communication with them with [FanSubs] too. I do enjoy that for sure.
Do you have a favorite part about FanSubs in your community that you're building on there?
To be myself, I just love that. I'm not your normal person. I love that I could just be myself. I really do. That's what I love about it.
Do you have any advice that you would give to creators who want to follow in your footsteps, build a platform across social media channels and on FanSubs?
Don't be scared to be outside the box. Literally. Everybody talks about niches, but they don't necessarily have to fit in one niche. I remember when my agency rebranded, they were trying to put us in niches and they said, Lynn's just everywhere. I literally just post. It makes me happy.
Is that something that you gave a lot of thought to once it became sort of a career, this idea of fitting in a niche?
We talk about that a lot. Yeah, I thought about it, but then I was just like, nah, I'm not gonna put myself in the box. I walk around with locks. With my hair and everything, I don't know. I've never fit in a box at all ever in my life.
Is there a lesson that you learned that you wish you had known earlier in your influencing career?
The haters always hate. I just believe [in myself]. Just move on. They'll make you money. They're watching you. They give you the views, but at the end of the day, you're the one winning. So just keep winning and don't worry about what people say or think. Haters and bullies will always be in your life, especially when you're winning. Especially when they see you striving.
Is there anything on your mind you want to say to your fans that we haven't talked about already?
I just want people to love themselves and continue to do what makes them happy in life.
What can we expect from you next?
I'm excited to launch this makeup content. Very excited to show that. I'm really excited for next year. Got some things I'm working on. I'm very excited to show that, the process of it and even it happening. I'm very excited. I'm excited to see it.
